The text is a first-person narrative of a conman who lures his victim into a shared psychosis, infiltrating his mind and converting him to the cause. The victim is addicted to the conman’s attention and affection, and the conman exploits this to extract information and money from him. The conman is devoid of conscience and sees his victim as nothing more than a means to an end.
Narcissists Hate Therapists
Narcissists regard therapy as a competitive sport and often try to prove themselves equal to the psychotherapist in knowledge, experience, or social status. They use professional psychological lingo and terms to level the playing field and create a shared psychosis between themselves and the therapist. Narcissists have a dilapidated and dysfunctional true self overtaken and suppressed by a false self, and therapy aims to create the conditions for the true self to resume its growth. Change is brought about only through incredible powers of torsion and wreckage, and it takes nothing less than a real crisis.
Understanding Your Past and Future Relationships
Sam Vaknin discusses the importance of understanding the components of romantic relationships, including mate selection, relationship models, and termination triggers. He suggests that individuals should prioritize their expectations of relationships, including love, desire, stability, personal growth, and sexual compatibility. Additionally, he recommends identifying commitment triggers and predictors, building trust, and defining roles and responsibilities. By understanding these factors and establishing communication protocols with partners, individuals can increase the longevity of their relationships.
When Narcissists Become Codependents
Living with a narcissist can be harrowing, and the partner of the narcissist is often molded into the typical narcissist mate, partner, or spouse. The partner must have a deficient or distorted grasp of herself and of reality, and the cognitive distortion of the partner of the narcissist is likely to consist of belittling and demeaning herself while aggrandizing and adoring the narcissist. The narcissist is perceived by the partner to be a person in the position to demand these sacrifices from her. The breakup of the relationship with the narcissist is emotionally charged and is the culmination of a long chain of humiliations and subjugation.
Narcissist Frustrates Women with Ostentatious Fidelity
Narcissists, particularly cerebral narcissists, often frustrate women who are attracted to them by withholding sex or teasing them. This is because they are misogynists who hold women in contempt and fear them. They divide women into saints and whores, and view sex and intimacy as mutually exclusive. The narcissist’s frustrating behavior serves to secure a narcissistic supply and reenact unresolved conflicts with their mother. They pathologize women to control them and project their own parasitic behavior onto them.
Raging Narcissist: Merely Pissed-off?
Narcissistic rage is a phenomenon that occurs when a narcissist is frustrated in their pursuit of narcissistic supply, causing narcissistic injury. The narcissist then projects a bad object onto the source of their frustration and rages against a perceived evil entity that has injured and frustrated them. Narcissistic rage is not the same as normal anger and has two forms: explosive and pernicious or passive-aggressive. People with personality disorders are in a constant state of anger, which is effectively suppressed most of the time, and they are afraid to show that they are angry to meaningful others because they are afraid to lose them.
Narcissist: I Love to be Hated and I Hate to be Loved
The author describes their love for being hated and their hatred for being loved. They enjoy the feeling of being feared and the attention that comes with their notoriety. They attack others sadistically and derive pleasure from inflicting pain. They also have a desire to be punished and feel that their persecution is proof of their uniqueness. The author also discusses the grandiosity gap and the constant background noise of demeaning laughter that the narcissist experiences.
Solitude is a Rational Choice
Schizoids avoid meaningful relationships and do not derive emotional benefits from associating with people. Narcissists rationalize their schizoid conduct and believe that being alone is the only logical choice in today’s hostile world. The breakdown and dysfunction of social structures and institutions are masked by technologies that provide similar truths and confabulations. The idolatry of the individual has resulted in malignant forms of narcissism that are prevalent and all-pervasive.
Inverted Narcissist Envies Narcissist Intimate Partner
Narcissists of the same type cannot maintain a stable, long-term relationship as they are consumed by their own narcissistic gratification and have no time or energy to cater to their partner’s needs. However, a long-term partnership can survive if one narcissist is cerebral and the other is somatic. Inverted cerebral narcissists tend to pair with cerebral narcissists, while inverted somatic narcissists tend to bond with their somatic counterparts. In the long run, an inverted narcissist may seek to ruin their classic partner, despite them being their prime source of narcissistic supply.
Narcissism? Munchausen and Munchausen by Proxy Syndromes
Munchausen Syndrome and Munchausen Biproxi Syndrome are forms of shared psychosis, where patients feign or self-inflict serious illness or injury to gain attention from medical personnel. Munchausen Biproxi Syndrome involves the patient inducing illness in or causing injury to a dependent to gain attention as a caretaker. These syndromes are not the same as classical narcissism, as patients with Munchausen Syndrome desire acceptance, love, and caring, and have a clinging, insecure, traumatized, deceitful, and needy true self. Patients with Munchausen Syndrome derive emotional nurturance and sustenance mainly from healthcare practitioners.
